This book is about a terrible tragedy that happend to a young girl when she was in college.
The book is writen in frist person form the son's point of view. The girl that he calls Ma was kidnaped after staying late in college. Ma and Jack live in a small shack behind the man who ubducted them's house. Jack call the man Old Nick because he saw on t.v.(he calls everything like the object is its name ex. the chair=chair the tub=tub the door=door) that Old St. Nick Sneaks into poeple houses late at night and that is what this man does. Old Nick sneaks into their room and rapes the mother at night well Jack lays in the wardrobe counting the creaks. Jack is a very brave little boy even tho he is only just five. Jack learns how to count and he is more intelligent then most five year-olds. They spend most of their days playing games that they make up and living on almost nothing. Untill one day they come up with a master plan on how to escape but will it work? You would have to read the book.
This book is amazing and made me cry and jump more than once. I think that anyone over 12 should read it. It has a touching ending and a great plot.I recomend this book to everyone who i think would be able to understand all the things going on in poor Jack's life.

ReplyDeleteI read this book, it was really well written and I thought it was really cool towards the end as they described how much has changed in the 10 years I think it was, that she was living in "room".
ReplyDeleteI read it too last year for my book club. The most thrilling part was when Ma and Jack come up with the plan to escape Room and Jack has to play dead and everything...I could not put it down at that point. I believe it is based on true events or a similar case that happened in real life.
