Small steps
by: Louis Sachar
This book is a sequel to another book, called Holes. In this particular book, a teen by the name of Theodore, is trying to fit back in after serving hard time for an incident at a movie theater. It isn't easy to do so, at least to him. Especially since he is known by his nickname, Armpit.
I like this book because there is a web of humor in it that unravels as you read further into the book. Towards the end, there is also quite a bit of suspense, which creates conflict exceptionally well, and builds a creative climax. Also, the mix of someone being convicted for minor assault with a famous singer and a disabled neighbor blends in perfectly with the background info.
I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a book with a lot of humor, as well as near-realistic, suspenseful conflict. And, for anyone who has read Holes, Small Steps is a really exciting sequel to read. Overall, this book is funny, gripping and exciting in one.
